This is the BirdLife Cyprus statement on how we store, use and protect personal information provided either online or offline by members and supporters.

 

Overall purpose

BirdLife Cyprus uses the contact information you provide to communicate (electronically or in printed form) with people like you who are interested in birdwatching and bird and nature conservation. We store and use your personal information to send you messages and materials about birdwatching, birds and their conservation, and about related issues.

 

How we gather your personal information

We gather names and e-mail addresses from the emails that you send to us and from forms you complete for us, on-line or on paper. BirdLife Cyprus does not gather personally identifiable information of visitors to its web site.

What personal information we store

Your name and e-mail address (as written on your e-mails to us) and if you supply them, your postal address, phone number and date of birth.

What personal information we do not store

We do not ask for nor store any of your financial details. When you become a member or donate through our website, we do not receive any information from the financial intermediaries such as PayPal and VISA other than the name, the e-mail and postal address of the purchaser, the membership package and the sum paid. Your information, whether public or private, will not be sold, exchanged, transferred, or given to any other company for any reason whatsoever, without your consent, other than for the express purpose of delivering a purchased product or service requested.

 

Use of “cookies”

We use cookies to help us understand and save your preferences for future visits, keep track of advertisements and compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future. (Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser (if you allow it) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information). We use a cookie to record a user’s decision on accepting the cookie, so the cookie banner won’t reappear next time you visit.

All gathered material is stored on password-protected computer systems under our personal control.

 

How we protect personal information

We use up-to-date commercial anti-virus and anti-malware protection, we scan for potential problems regularly and we update our systems whenever we are advised to by the software manufacturers. Our computer systems are kept either in our personal care or else securely locked up. All supplied sensitive/credit information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted into our Payment gateway provider’s database only to be accessible by those authorized with special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. After a transaction, your private information (credit cards, social security numbers, financials, etc.) will not be stored on our servers.

 

How we use personal information

Your personal information is used for personal communications from BirdLife Cyprus, and for mailing out items of general interest to group mailing lists.

Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:

Right to erasure (also known as “right to be forgotten”) – You may ask for personal data we hold on you to be deleted, and we will comply, without question and without undue delay, unless we have a legal reason to continue to process and hold it.

Right to withdraw consent – If you have given us your consent to process your personal data but change your mind later, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time and we will stop processing your data.  If you no longer wish to receive mailings from us, please tell us and we will promptly comply.
